DAY TRIP GALS: Friday, August 16 at 9:45 am Flat Top Manor - A trip along the Blue Ridge Parkway offers spectacular views of the Appalachian Mountain landscapes. We will make a few stops along the way to take in the panoramic views as we travel to Flat Top Manor, the summer retreat of textile magnet Moses H. Cone and his wife, Bertha. While there we will have a guided tour of the estate and learn about the life of the Cones. The manor house, completed in 1905, was turned over to the Cone Memorial Hospital at the death of Bertha Cone. The Hospital then donated the estate to the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Southern Highlands Craft Guild is located on the main floor of the house. All participants are juried and prices in the Guild may reflect that. After our guided tour through the estate, we will go to the Chetola Resort and have a relaxing lunch at Timberlake Restaurant. After lunch, you are on your own to explore the unique shops of Blowing Rock or visit the Tanger Outlet nearby. Or if you prefer, call it a day and head for home.
